Who Is Huligemma Devi?

Huligemma Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Renuka, also known as Yellamma Devi, the mother of Lord Parashurama. Worshipped along the Tungabhadra River, she embodies strength and protection. Her temple in Huligi, a 13th-century marvel, attracts devotees seeking her blessings for courage and prosperity.

The Divine Origin of Huligemma Devi

The story of Huligemma Devi begins 800 years ago with two ardent devotees, Nagajogi and Basavajogi. These disciples of Sri Somanathabhatta, a priest at the Someshwara Temple, regularly trekked to Saundatti to worship Yellamma Devi. One monsoon, heavy rains stopped their journey. Heartbroken, they chanted her name all night. At dawn, Goddess Renuka appeared in their dreams, promising to reside in Huligi. She manifested as a Shaligrama and Srichakra near the Someshwara Temple, becoming Huligemma Devi.
